TOP 10 TIPS FOR YOUR MOST GORGEOUS BLONDE

You know how the saying goes: blondes have more fun!  But, if you’ve transformed your natural mane into gorgeous golden locks, you may have already found out the truth.  Blond hair is one of the most high-maintenance colors available.  And as you’ve probably figured by now, more maintenance means less fun.  But hey, don’t you worry your pretty head!  You’ll be on your way to charmingly carefree, fun and bouncy blonde hair in no time if you’re armed with these Top 10 Tips from our expert colorists at eSalon.

Tip #1

INVEST IN AN EXCELLENT DEEP CONDITIONER

Blond hair is notorious for almost always being dry and damaged.  This is often due to the harsh bleach needed to get hair to lighten.  Deep conditioning is crucial to combat this dryness, and thus an excellent deep conditioner is a worthwhile investment.  One of the best deep conditioner in the market is our very own Deeply Invested by eSalon.  Apply Deeply Invested to your blonde strands at least once a week to infuse your hair with the moisture it needs to keep breakage and dullness away.  Take it one step further and sleep with the conditioning formula in your hair at least once a month.  With these simple tricks, your thirsty blonde strands will be parched no longer!

Tip #2

USE A PURPLE SHAMPOO

When you first color your hair with sun-kissed luminous blonde, you feel unstoppable.  But then time passes and what was once golden is now brassy orange, yellow, or even red!   This often happens because underlying tones in the hair start to show through as color begins to fade.  Luckily, all is not lost!  You can keep these brassy tones at bay with one secret weapon: purple shampoo!  Purple shampoo has the power to neutralize these underlying tones.  eSalon’s Tinted Love purple shampoo works flawlessly to deposit pigment onto the hair to bring golden back to your locks.

Tip #3

WEAR A SUN HAT

Ah, the love/hate relationship between a Blonde and the sun!  On one hand, the sun creates multi-dimensional summer highlights that make you the envy of all the other girls at the beach.  On the other hand, the sun quickly fades your golden color, leaving you bleached out, dull, and heartbroken.  There is middle-ground however!  Always wear a sun hat.  Doing so protects your hair from harmful UV rays, and keeps your color fresh.  Plus, sun hats are all the rage right now.  So not only will you be protecting your blonde, but you’ll be doing so in style!

Tip #4

LIMIT WASHING TO 3X A WEEK & USE A GOOD DRY SHAMPOO

Every time your blonde locks meet water, you’ll experience fading.  That’s hard to avoid.  But what you can do is limit the number of times you let water fade your hair.  Plan to wash your hair only 2 or 3 times a week.  Meanwhile, between washes, use an excellent dry shampoo to keep your tresses and scalp fresh.  A lot of dry shampoos on the market strips you hair of moisture, but one of the most moisturizing dry shampoos you can find is eSalon’s Without a Trace.  Formulated with panthenol and vitamin E, your scalp maintains moisture and your hair remains shiny, all while absorbing your natural oils.

Tip #5

DAMPEN HAIR & APPLY CONDITIONER BEFORE EVERY SWIM

Outdoor fun and sun isn’t complete without a dip in the pool!  Unfortunately, exposure to pool chlorine means an attack on your beautiful beach blonde color.  Too many pool days will leave your hair with that dreaded greenish hue.  But, there is a simple trick!  Before stepping foot into the chlorine waters of your next pool party, fully dampen your hair with tap water first, or apply conditioner to protect your locks.  This helps your strands avoid the absorption of too much chlorine.  Also, as soon as you’re done with your swim, always remember to fully rinse your hair.

Tip #6

APPLY COLOR TO REGROWTH ONLY

Colorists all over the world agree that the single biggest mistake clients make in maintaining their color is to apply touch up color all over.  Touch up color is meant solely for the roots and regrowth only.  Nowhere is this mistake more apparent than with those touching up blonde hair.  Overlapping blonde hair causes all sorts of consequences like over-processing, darkening, or the light coloring turning green or blue.  When maintaining color, apply to your regrowth only and follow your personalized instructions.  Also make sure to keep communication open by letting your colorist know if you want to refresh your hair with new color.  Your colorist can then let you know exactly how to achieve fresh, dimensional color results.

Tip #7

GET A HAIRCUT

Blonde color looks better on healthy hair, period!  So what’s the point of beautiful hair color if they’re hanging onto strands that are dull and riddled with split ends?  The solution is simple: get a haircut.  Snip off split ends and dead tips that make your hair look thin and drab.  Maintain a trim every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure you’ve got shiny and fresh healthy hair that will do justice to your beautiful blonde color.

Tip #8

GET HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights are popular for a reason.  They add a depth and dimension to blonde hair that makes the color look natural and sun-kissed.  Try our new Lightlab Kit, which is the perfect way to add beautiful multi-dimensional facets to your blonde hair.

Tip #9

STAY ON TOP OF ROOT TOUCH UPS

They say that timing is everything, and guess what?  That applies to the world of color as well!  If you’re lightening your natural hair more than one shade, it is imperative that you stay on top of your root touch ups.  Why?  Because letting your roots grow too much between touch-ups creates uneven color results.  Aim for touching up every 4 to 6 weeks if you’re lightening your natural color.

Tip #10

GIVE IT CARE

Last but not least, going blonde is not for the weak of heart!  Beautiful blonde hair is a high-maintenance commitment, and the sooner you embrace that, the better life will be.  Always give your blonde all the care and attention it needs.
